Update.

Thursday, August 26th, 2004 05:35 pm (UTC)

If you mean the subset of Russian youth that participates in the Olympics, it is not a representative subset. All ultra-competitive people are "yobnutye, chto li".

No, those who participate are all right. (Look at Nemov, for example: good sportsmanship.) But when you read how they comment the Olympics, the impression is... disappointing. Of course, when you read how they commented the last Olympics, or 9/11, or the Kursk, or anything else for that matter, it's still the same impression: some seriously screwed minds.

Nemov is not "youth", he does not count. He's older than 25, for doG's sake! I do not watch Russian TV so I cannot comment on how Russian youth comments on Olympics.

Tangentially, a few interviews with young Russian winners who speak English demonstrated a much better command of language in general compared to Carly Patterson - she's just a valley girl, if you know what I mean. But at her age it is excusable.

I do not watch any TV, and only judge by what I can read online.

Again, I was not talking about the sportsmen, but plain regular folks.
