History will record that the U.S. could have saved tremendous loss of life and treasure had we liberated Iraqi with more troops and a proper "after-victory" plan. But the chronicles will also show that America could have saved time, money and--most especially, lives--had the Left contributed its valuable resources to the liberation effort as well. Imagine if feminists, labor leaders, environmentalists, civil rights activists, artists and the media had joined in the struggle instead of sitting on the sidelines--or worse, assisting the fascists? Imagine if the clarion cry of freedom and democracy had arisen from a unified progressive front consisting of conservatives and liberals? Just as we've learned how much succor the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong took from the anti-war protesters of the 1960s, we will someday learn how the parochial, small-minded, narrow-souled opposition to the establishment of democracy in Iraq stiffen the fascist backbone of the "insurgency." But of course, the Michael Moores, Robert Fisks, George Galloways, Ted Kennedys and innumerable Hollywood celebrities and academics of this world will not care--they will always find reporters, voters, fans and tenure committees willing to dull the sting of conscience.

Such "unified front" requires, for starters, an ability and willingness of the Administration to build alliances ;) Had it been there, the liberation would have been delayed, structured differently, carrid out within UN, whatever. Moore could still have been a lunatic he is, but he would have been a lonely lunatic.

I doubt it. The market for bullshit is too large. And the politically-based hatred is too strong (here, the Right may be historically somewhat more guilty than the Left, or at least as guilty).

And the UN is a joke. Think Middle East.

And Bush isn't a joke? Think United States....

Bush is not a joke, he is a nobody. UN, the military part anyway (including Security Council), is a sad joke.

Yep, UN troops really do not amount to much. Imagine how your conservatives would be scared shitless if the hated UN did have troops that amounted to something.

I wonder how my liberals would have been scared then.

What's the point of politicking here?

Not that I am necessarily "your" liberal, but I am totally not afraid. It's the right wing that typically gets the vision of a global UN-run empire. Read your "Left Behind" books ((((-:

Fortunately, there is no danger of a UN empire.
