A (or the) fundamental problem with it is pattern-based recovery, so that a dedicated malefactor can create a file that could blow the filesystem to smithereens in case of a power glitch.

Not ReiserFS per se. A re-implementation (Reiser4) fixes this problem, but see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reiser4#Future_of_ReiserFS
