Of course he is. Anyone can use The Objective Measure Of Presidential Success to unimpeachably verify that based on first 59 days of presidency he is definitely worse than Carter.

You can if you want to. The real issue is the difference between the perception and reality. Too much partisanship, especially in the coverage, and then in the discussion. It can all become very cozy and comfortable, you know.

Понимаешь, когда речь про непонятное, то можно отвлечься: скажем, убедить себя, что сказанное (за или против) просто партийная болтовня. Или когда всякий новый назначенец начинает с того, что извиняется за недоплаченные налоги: кто туда пойдёт, ну нету других, из кого ж тут выбирать. Chas Freeman другой случай, но тоже можно отнести на счёт борьбы фракций.

Но здесь настолько явная некомпетентность, причём дешёвая такая. Даже дело не в том, что некомпетентность. There is substance and there is perception. I do not know what kind of man Obama is and what kind of team he is putting together, time will show. But I was under impression that he was able to maintain the perception. Here he failed in the department where I thought he was solid.
