Which laptop models and brands are considered best for installing a linux these days? I want an ssd instead of the regular hard drive, and a 13" display. I do not think I have any other restrictions.

Thanks!

Good question, I am in Canada, we do not have much in terms of laptop retail at all.

I currently have X300, the 13" model with one of the first Samsung SSD's which existed for couple yours (mine is 3 years old this March). Was quite expensive because of SSD's, but grant pays. But my main need was/is the lowest weight (had exceptionally nice Gateway Solo for over 5 years before that). Linux support was complete on both models. Everything is working.

Among current ones it is either X200 series in light 12", or people really like T410 in 14" for speed and Linux support.

Of course Thinkpads are those black boxes, not everybody likes them.

Among negatives - screens are usually not great. Adequate but not exceptional. On the other hand, one few that still are not glassy.

What about T410s specifically? Need to see if 14" is better than 12" (I expect it to be).

Thanks!

X series (12" nowdays) are very light, they are in ultracompact class. Mine is under 3 lb. 14", like T410 is over 5 pounds, it is quite a full weight beast.

Yeah, I think it would be great to be able to hold them to get a feel of each.
