Printer setup - help request

When a printer initializes it does not see paper in paper feed. What could cause it?

I have, of course, put paper in the input tray. I tried a batch with the weight of 90 g/m² and another with 75 g/m². The printer catches one sheet and then cannot catch the second one. Complains. I press "continue", it catches the sheet but now cannot catch the next one. And so on.

HP Officejet Pro 8500A.

(1) check if the duplexer in the back is installed correctly (not loose, etc)
(2) check paper size in the preferences/options/whatevertheyare - the default size may be off
(3) there is a firmware patch on the HP support site
(4) invoke warranty
