Interesting, but... does not read as a very reliable source. Or does it?

What do you mean?
That the guy is not real?
That he does not really know anything?
That he is lying?

I have no idea on either one of those. However, funny thing - I think the probability of him telling the true story is somewhat higher then not. There is no any doubt - not even in the UN, that Saddam did have WMD. So, there are three possibilities:
- he destroyed them as ordered and then decided to hide the fact (that would be THE most stupid thing he could have done - something like to aim the toy gun at the police officer)
- he destroyed them when the war started
- he hid them

I am guessing that given total lack of sense of going the first way, the chances are that he destroyed some and hid some. We will see soon enough.

I mean, former (as well as current) spies are not a particularly reliable source, usually, and this guy sounds suspiciously.

What you say about the possibilities is true, of course, but there is a difference between theoretical constructions and the factual reality. I can guess as well as you, and my best guess is the same as yours, but I would like to see reliable evidence.
