the elections that Bush welcomed may wind up being the best means of undoing his Iraq war policy.

And what was his Iraq war policy? I thought he has been aiming for the elections all along. :-)

No, the elections at this time were allowed under pressure from Al Sistani and shiites, who are hostile to Americans and will control any Iraqi legislature.

Bush's Iraq war policy, among other things, is a loyal regime in Bagdad, or at least one that's more or less guaranteed to be neutral. These elections may undo this policy.

No! The war was about The Oil!
And likudnik neoconservative control of Middle East and beyond! Even [livejournal.com profile] bulatych, not the brightest mind of LJ, knows it, and yoo don't. Shame on you.

Bush's Iraq policy, war or not, is to have a loyal regime in Baghdad. It's the same old policy of installing "our son of a bitch". Saddam, Noriega, Franco, Somosa, Pinochet, etc., all used to be "our sons of bitches". But Saddam and Noriega eventually became such "sons of bitches" than they couldn't be "ours" anymore. Of course, the trouble with this policy is that a "son of a bitch" is installed in the first place.

В лженауку вернулось священное животное, и бесчинствует. Я бы, ей-богу, забанил его раз и навсегда.

We need a study which would explain why any mention of Bush, especially together with Iraq, facilitates temporary loss of facilities for rational discussion :-) The phenomenon is obvious... where is its memetic explanation ?

What's funny, in some sense it is difficult to believe that Bush really cares about elections beyond purely pragmatic reasons.

What's even more funny, this thing which is so difficult to believe is probably true :-)
