Tried Yudit...

Tried to copy-n-paste the following string from yudit to mozilla: "Hello, shalom, zdraste" with "shalom" in Hebrew and "zdraste" in Russian. Result:

Fuck! It does not seem to properly process some (but not all!) BiDi directives. the result is what you can (?) read here. May be mozilla's fault too.

Update: Yes, must be Mozilla. Opera does not understand BiDi, apparently, and happily writes

It also shows "strange" characters on both sides of the ‮שלומ‬ thing. Which means that Yudit must have put them there.

I know, but I did not know how to find it on the keyboard. My point was not to learn how to write Hebrew, but how to write BiDi. :-)

It seems what is not working is the text entry form. Even if I paste Hebrew separately -- ‮עברית

-- but the rest is garbage.

Looks like we gotta set a firm time for the party and let people disagree - otherwise we can be BS-ing forever. For instance:

В каталоге /etc/X11/xkb/symbols есть файл il. Я сделал его копию под именем il_group3 (в том же каталоге) и в ней изменил строку Group2 на Group3. После этого, кажется, нужно один раз запустить "xkbseldb -R" (как root).

В файле конфигурации X в секции клавиатуры у меня стоит:

   Option "XkbKeycodes"   "xfree86"
   Option "XkbTypes"   "default"
   Option "XkbCompat"  "group_led"
   Option "XkbSymbols" "us(pc102)+ru(winkeys)+il_group3(basic)+group(alt_shift_toggle)+group(switch)"

Теперь я могу переключать клавиатуру между английским, ивритом и русским, нажимая . Можно писать прямо в Мозилле на любом из этих языков. Лампочка scroll lock загорается когда клавиатура не английская.

У trurle на сайте есть файл для "фонетической" русской раскладки, но я им не пользуюсь.
