It will. However, Bush is not going to the next elections, and the party might happily concentrate on selecting a better candidate. I just hope that the DEmocrats do the same; their most recent record has been pathetic.
Yeah... so it looks like we are facing a legislative stalemate, and a lame-duck government unable to pass anything non-trvial... possibly for as long as 3 years...

But even the political life of the country is actually not mostly about "the next elections", at least not 3 years in advance. And the candidates are being selected during the primary season, it's not like there are some shady party mechanisms which can do too much before that. And it's the business of the candidates (and their supporters) to emerge, rather than party business...
