Update. MT: I tried to get to the other side of the front line, so to speak, and was thrown back by the Russian military. Есть только проблема с "экспертом":

Мне кажется, таким сайтам доверять примерно то же самое, что основывать свои суждения на заявлениях Министерства Обороны России.

похоже автор репортажа это понимает. Вы случайно не заметили предложение, следующее сразу же после приведенного Вами:)

Я, по правде сказать, как только увидел то, что вставил в коментарии, так сразу и вставил, только потом стал читать дальше. Виноват. Поторопился, конечно.

А то предложение, которые Вы указали и вовсе блестящее. Там даже не знаешь какой оборот смешнее.

Michael Totten совсем не дурак и понимает разницу между собственным мнением и словами другого человека. Мне важно, что он доносит без искажений (насколько я могу судить) слова этого другого человека. Кроме того, из предыдущего чтения у меня сложилось впечатление, что он старается, по возможности, не ограничиваться одной стороной в конфликте. Я надеюсь, что и тут он поступит так же.
