I think many Americans elected BO because he is black. In the past people could have voted for a black man despite his color, and it is progress (and before that would not or could not vote for blacks etc). But when will people ignore the color altogether? That will be something.

How do you know?

Blacks tend to vote Democratic. 93% of the Washington DC vote went to Obama, who is black, but then 89% went to Kerry, who is white.

I am not talking %, I am talking actual number. Record high number of blacks voted this year. 93% of them for BO.

In 2004, 56% of eligible black citizens voted. David Bositis, a black-vote expert at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, estimated black turnout in 2008 was 65% to 70% — well above the previous record of 58% in 1968, the first election after the Voting Rights Act passed.

So the black turnout was about 20% larger in 2008 than in 2004, but not so much larger as to justify the claim, "Almost all blacks who voted for BO, voted because he is black."

Я же Вам толкую - Вы сравниваете проценты от разных абсолютных величин и это не имеет смысла. Пример: 50% от 10 больше 70% от 2. The number of eligible black citizens in 2008 is much bigger than in 2004, hence 70% of eligible black vote in 2008 is MUCH bigger than 56% of eligible black vote in 2004.

Example: in Georgia the number of newly registered black voters in 2008 increased almost 30 % in comparison with 2004, see http://www.mcclatchydc.com/homepage/story/55109.html. The same happened in other states.

Здесь речь идет о зарегистрированных избирателях. Eligible - это все взрослые кроме умственно отсталых и т. д.
