Цит.: Ученые из Миланского университета усилили гипотезу шести рукопожатий при помощи Facebook - оказалось, что большинство людей связано между собой в среднем через четырех посредников (то есть пять рукопожатий).

В статье говорится о населении Фейсбука. Первоначальная гипотеза говорит обо всем населении Замли. Не у всех есть фейсбуковский аккаунт, но почти все знают кого-то с фейсбуковским аккаунтом. Значит, количество рукопожатий при переходе от первой модели ко второй удлиняется примерно на одно (сейчас в их системе около 800 млн аккаунтов, а население Земли несколько больше 7 млрд).

В статье померянное количество рукопожатий немножко меньше 5, т.е. в первоначальной модели немножко меньше 6, что подтверждает, а не "усиливает", первоначальную оценку.

Количество знакомых, конечно, у таких в среднем заметно меньше. Но с учетом распределения населения по Земле, а также с учетом распределения фейсбука, совсем незнающих должно быть немного.

Конечно, я не даю хорошую оценку изменения количества рукопожатий при переходе от модели к модели. Это просто прикидка.

Кроме того, слово булшит (bullshit) значит "вранье", а не "ошибка". Кто выражается точнее, того и слушают внимательнее.

English wikis are usually much better than, say, Russian wikis. Still, they have to be checked.

I would concede, the meaning of the word may be stretched to be what is indicated in the wiktionary entry. However, the usage I see around me is consistent with the usage suggested in the dictionaries below. Ignoring the more widespread (perhaps even normative) usage may lead to confusion. In this case, one might easily think you implied what you did not. Or, put it the other way, hard not to think that you did.
