Petition against the anti-Israeli academic boycott.

Scientists, professionals, academics are invited to sign it (if they agree with it).

Is there some URL with the petition FOR boycott? I'd go gladly and sign (and send all my friends I could muster).

Please tell us

Thank you for the link, cema! You were very eloquent in replying to the previous post placed by Anonymous - I can sign up under your reply to him/her.

I did sign the petition against Israeli boycott and sent the link to all my real friends. You are my only virtual friend so far as am trying to figure out how to navigate the journal which I've just started, and am very flattered that you've included yourself on my friends list. I really have only one Interest, or rather just one which I am always eager and ready to disuses - Jewish people, Israel, Judaism.

All the best!
Anna from Arizona (the cactus above could be seen from my window).

Thank you. Eloquence is my goal.

Arizona is a beautiful place. Never been there, always wanted. Maybe will pass through it (on the way from KY to CA) in early August.

A natural way to "navigate LJ" is to create an interesting list of friends and monitor it. This includes real people and their virtuals ("users") as well as groups of people ("communities"). This way, you can (1) keep in touch with those who live far away but you do not want to part with, and (2) keep track of what is going on in various places around the world (as well as inside various heads around the world).

There are plenty of interesting communities related to Israel and Jews (Judaism also, but as a secular Jew I am not really into it), and there are users whose journals are primarily devoted to single topics or groups of topics related to Jewish life. Look eg at [livejournal.com profile] shvil, [livejournal.com profile] david_2, [livejournal.com profile] imenno ([livejournal.com profile] khatul), [livejournal.com profile] nechaman, read their journals and comments, and go on from there.

Have fun!

Sunday, July 8th, 2007 08:53 pm (UTC)
Sunday, July 8th, 2007 08:58 pm (UTC)

Monday, July 9th, 2007 04:00 am (UTC)

Thanks. Posted in my LJ as well.
Monday, July 9th, 2007 06:36 pm (UTC)
Yes, I saw it. And I found several names I recognized in the list of signatures. There is still room for more.
Monday, July 9th, 2007 11:42 am (UTC)
I never understood this thing about Israel. Why don't they make a big concrete wall around the country along some suitable borders, so that the talk about "occupation" can be stopped? Why don't they officially separate themselves from the Palestinian "autonomy" and stop financing the Palestinian regime? Let the Palestinians stay there with or without an official State of Palestine, whatever. Why not bomb every point in Gaza until the guerillas stop firing hand-made missiles? For a side observer (I am not Jewish), this is a very strange war indeed.

And yes, I am against the boycott too and I already signed. I recently wrote a paper with a very bright graduate student from North Korea. It seems that he dearly wishes to remain in the West.
Monday, July 9th, 2007 01:06 pm (UTC)
:))))))

sorry, dude - couldn't help myself...
Monday, July 9th, 2007 06:30 pm (UTC)
From your proposal I can see you are not Jewish. What about hand wringing, lamentations and unjustified best intentions? What about self-doubts and looking for the best in your enemies? No, that's not a Jewish way...

On a more serious note, indeed a separation and a border are needed. Question is where to draw the line (and how).

And, of course, "bombing every point in Gaza" is impossible. There are plenty of innocent people there. Not saints, but largely innocent. (Plenty of not so innocent ones as well, they can be taken care of by other means, if there is a will.)

Monday, July 9th, 2007 06:32 pm (UTC)
Monday, July 23rd, 2007 03:08 am (UTC)
Monday, July 23rd, 2007 04:14 am (UTC)
